This past week, the Shorewomen lacrosse team went 1-1 in the Centennial Conference, losing 19-5 to 4th ranked Franklin and Marshall but defeating Bryn Mawr 18-5.
The Shorewomen fell behind 9-3 in the first half of play against Franklin and Marshall. F&M scored two goals in the first minute of play and held a 5-1 lead less than 14 minutes into the game. Sophomore Kalli Parrish led Washington College with two goals, while juniors Sam Ohrem, Sarah Cannon and Liz Cumberpatch each scored one goal. F&M held a 44-14 advantage in shots and an 18-8 advantage in draw controls in the game.
Against Bryn Mawr, the Shorewomen went on a seven-goal run that assisted in their 13-4 halftime lead.
Senior captain Allie Hanzsche lead WC with four goals, while Parrish scored three goals and assisted on another. Sophomore Liza Twilley added two goals and one assist, and freshman attacker Britton Preroff scored two goals. The Shorewomen held a 42-12 advantage in shots and controlled 17 of the 25 draws in the game.
The Shorewomen will honor seniors Allie Hanzsche, Tara Hart, and Catherine Habel in their last home game Saturday at 1 p.m.
“We’ve had some very exciting wins including a win over Ursinus which had never happened before in my four years here. Hopefully, if we finish this week with another two wins, we will finish the season 9-6, our first winning record since 2004,” Hanzsche said.
However, there is much she will miss about playing lacrosse at WC. She will miss “the tailgates, spring break, the Kib. But I will definitely miss playing lax and winning games with my 22 best friends the most.”
