Men’s Swimming Drops Opener to Gettysburg

Washington College men’s swimming fell in their season opener against Gettysburg College 133-62. In addition to the season opener, this was the Shoremen’s first conference meet.

Junior Austin Auger had a time of 2:21.59 in the 200 breaststroke and was second in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:08.95. Senior Matt Violette came in second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:09.46.

Captains for the 2010-2011 Shoremen Men’s swim team are Violette and junior Johnny Helenek. Violette holds the school record in the 500 freestyle and is a five time silver medalist at the Centennial Conference Championships. Helenek finished 10th in the 100 breaststroke and 11th in the 200 breastroke at the 2010 Centennial Conference Championship.

Washington College Hall of Famer Kim Lessard coaches the Shoremen in her 20th season. The assistant coaches for the 2010-2011 season are Robin Glaser and Mark Yankovich.

The Shoremen are in action again this Friday at St. Mary’s.
