The Shorewomen softball team returns nine players this season. They are also full of fresh young players this year, welcoming eight freshmen and a junior transfer student to the team.

Junior outfielder Leigh Carbutt and junior third baseman Sally Snover are the captains leading the softball team for the 2011 season. Both were named to the All-Centennial Conference first team last season. Carbutt was named to the first team for the second straight season, while Snover was All-Conference and first team for the first time.

Carbutt led the team with a .400 batting average in her second season with the Shorewomen. She was also top on the team in runs scored (28), hits (40), home runs (5), total bases (65), slugging percentage (.650), on-base percentage (.470) and stolen bases (11). Carbutt was second on the squad in RBI (21), doubles (8) and walks (12). In the conference she was third in batting average, slugging percentage and total bases, tied for third in home runs, fourth in on-base percentage, tied for fourth in runs scored, tied for fifth in hits and seventh in stolen bases. Carbutt had a 10-game hitting streak to open the season and was named Centennial Conference Player of the Week on March 8. The sophomore started all 32 games in 2010.

Snover also started in all 32 games in 2010. She hit .277 with three home runs and a team-best 24 RBI. She slugged .455, scored 21 runs and tallied 46 total bases, good for second on the team in all three categories. Snover had six stolen bases during the season and led the team in assists (59). In a win on March 8, she drove in a career-best five runs including her first career grand slam. The sophomore also had two three run games last season.

The Shorewomen kick off their season next weekend March 4-5 in the Beach Blast Tournament with games at Virginia Wesleyan College.
