NY Author to Discuss the Farming Life Next Week

CHESTERTOWN – Author Kristin Kimball says, “Farming keeps you close to the dirt and humble…But the best lesson farming has taught me is the deep pleasure of commitment—to family, to the farm, to a small town.”
Kimball and her husband Mark live on Essex Farm, near Lake Champlain, in northern New York. They raise almost everything they need for a year-round diet. Most of the work is done with draft horses instead of tractors. Their farm is a CSA with 150 members. People come each week to pick up their share of organic produce, flours, milk, meats, and eggs.

Ms. Kimball will lecture on “The Dirty Life: Farming, Food and Love” at Washington College on April 13 at 7:30 PM in Hotchkiss Recital Hall in the Gibson Art Center.

This event was postponed in February due to inclement weather. The lecture is presented by the Center for Environment & Society, Farm Dinners on the Shore, the Joseph H. McLain Program in Environmental Studies, and the Sophie Kerr Committee. Contact 410-778-7295 for more information.
