On April 6, the Swarthmore Garnet hosted Washington. The Shoremen fell to the Garnet 8-6.
The Garnet had a strong 8-1 lead on the Shoremen until the top of the ninth inning, where the Shoremen were able to score five more runs. The rally started with a homerun from junior Dwight Wilcox, his first Washington College homerun. Sophomore Ryan Mulhearn was able to score after a sacrifice fly by freshman Nick Marinelli. Freshman Jon Mahaffey, sophomore Sean Connole and junior Ryan Normoyle added three additional runs.
At the top of the sixth inning, junior John Rolewicz earned his 100th career hit with a single down the left field line. Rolewicz is the second Shoreman to earn his 100th career hit this season, joining junior Ryan Normoyle.
The Shoremen swept the Gettysburg Bullets on April 10 with a score of 4-1 in the first game and a 2-0 victory in the second. This is the Shoremen’s first sweep of the Bullets since 2002.
In game one, Normoyle scored the first run for the Shoremen on a single by Connole. An error by Gettysburg allowed Marinelli the chance to score and put the Shoremen up two against Gettysburg. Normoyle was able to get another run for the Shoremen from a double by Cotterell.
At the top of the seventh inning Rolewicz singled to right center with two away, allowing Marinelli to add an additional run to the Shoremen lead.
In the second game the Shoremen scored the only two runs at the top of the third. Marinelli scored the first run for the Shoremen off of a double by Rolewicz. Wilcox hit an infield single driving Normoyle home.
In the first game, junior Shane Mattingly got the win from the mound and sophomore pitcher Kyle Aldrich got the win in game two.
On April 11, the Shoremen hosted the Swarthmore Garnet and fell 13-4. During the game, Wilcox had his second home run of the year. Wilcox had three RBI during the game.
The Shoremen are now 15-11 overall and 6-4 in the conference and are in action against Franklin & Marshall today at 3:30 p.m.
