This past Wednesday, the Shorewomen traveled to Gettysburg College, where they played an incredible game as a team. Only minutes into the beginning of the first half, freshmen attack Claire McAuliffe set the tempo for the Shorewomen after scoring from the right post. “It was one of the most shocking and exciting experiences to score the first goal in such an important game,” McAuliffe said, “The intensity in the atmosphere continued to increase as the game went on, which lead us to this huge team win”.
The defense played as a unit with the help of sophomore goalkeeper. Steph Harryman, who had seven saves in the win for the Shorewomen. Senior midfielder Gussie Reilly made the game winning goal on a pentalty stroke, allowing the Shorewomen to bring home a 2-1 win over the Bullets. Reilly is proud of her teammates after Wednesday’s win against the Bullets, saying “we needed a conference win as both our team and Gettysburg expect to contend for a spot in the playoffs.”
This victory was the Shorewomen`s third straight against Gettysburg, making it the longest-ever winning streak in the series. The Shorewomen now hold an overall record of 3-4, winning 2 games in the Centennial Conference. The ladies are back in action Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. as they play against Wesley College.
