I don’t know about everyone else, but for me spring break came at just the right time. After weeks of stress and lack of sleep, I was completely ready to go home and sleep through spring break and come back ready to take on the rest of the semester.
Unfortunately, my first spring break flew by, and all of sudden, we’re back at school. Nevertheless, there are plenty of reasons why spring break in college is better than long weekends in grade school.
Overall the semester has been a blur, but all of a sudden it’s actually spring. Rather than waiting until the spring weather starts, this year we left school and came back to crazy warm weather and blooming trees.
It makes it harder to go to class, but it’s more motivating to think that summer is almost here. Soon enough, the end of the semester will be here, and homework will be the last thing on my mind.
Many people, myself included, took a much needed visit back home, to catch up with family and friends. In high school, the only thing special about spring break was no school. After being away for a couple months, it’s nice to go back to your family and actually have stories to share because you haven’t seen each other every day. Seeing your friends also becomes a treat, rather than something routine. Maybe I haven’t gained a full appreciation for my hometown, but I actually miss it, which is new for me.
If home isn’t your ideal destination for a week, spring break is the perfect time to go far away from nagging parents and all the stress of school. Unlike past years of family vacations over Easter and boring weeks doing the same old thing, break is great opportunity to go road-tripping with new friends.
Whether you go visit other friends at different schools or fall asleep on a beach somewhere, a change of scene is much needed around this time. It’s more fun to come back with stories of somewhere you’ve never been, especially when they’re with people you’ve never gone anywhere with before.
The only negative side to spring break being over is that there are two more months of the semester, plus finals, with no break. The three weeks before break were barely manageable for a lot of people, as much as I hate to say it.
Hopefully the coming weeks will be better, but the silver lining is that most of it is behind us.
