This past Saturday, April 14, the Shoremen lacrosse team lost its first Conference match against Gettysburg College with an ending score of 13-11.
Responding to the Bullets’ first goal, freshman attackman Grant Hughes scored two goals back-to-back of one another to pull the Shoremen ahead 2-1. After holding the Shoremen to a 7-3 lead in the half, Hughes scored off an assist from junior attackman Bennett Cord with only 17 seconds before half time.
With only eight seconds into the third quarter, Cord scored off an assist from freshman Michael Trapp, changing the scoreboard to 7-5. Washington College senior attackman Dominic Serio scored off an assist from Cord with 36 seconds to go to cut the lead to two goals before the game ended. However, the Bullets took home the win.
Hughes scored a career-high four goals for the Shoremen, while Cord had two goals and four assists and sophomore midfielder Kodie Englehart came out with two goals and one assist.
The Shoremen have moved down two spots on the national rank to 17th, and are now number two in the Conference being 5-1 in the conference and 8-3 overall.
The Shoremen return to action Wednesday at 7 p.m. to play against Centennial Conference, Swarthmore College. This will be their last match on Roy Kirby Jr. field before heading to the Conference playoffs on May 4.
