Men’s Tennis Beats Ursinus

The Washington College Men’s tennis team is on quite the winning streak. Since their return from spring break, they have lost only two out of the seven matches they have had. These passed two weeks alone have included three straight wins. Last week, on April 3, they faced Ursinus College in a 7-2 final win.

The day started with two out of the three teams winning. In No. 3, freshman Dan Boaté and graduated student Andrew Laux won 8-4. In No. 2, sophomore Marc Cywinski and freshman Vishnu Rajes won in a shut out of 8-0. And although seniors Kevin Papen and Aaron Ellison lost at No.1, it was a close score of 9-7.

The singles competition continued in WC’s favor as the men won five our out of their six singles as Ellison, at No. 2, Boaté, at No.3, Cywinski, at No. 4, senior Kyle Lisco, at No. 5, and freshman Joel Novick, at No. 6, defeated their UC counterparts.

The winning streak only improved as the men moved on this past Saturday to Dickinson College, having a near shut out at 8-1. The swept in doubles as Papen and Ellison won 8-2 at No.1, Cywinski and Rajes won 8-3 at No. 2, and Laux and Boate won 8-6 at No. 3. Again they won five out of six of their singles with Ellison at No.2, Rajes at No.3, Boaté at No.4, Cywinski at No.5, and Lisco at No.6, Even Papen, whose match was the only loss for WC, managed to push his match to a third game.

Of course, the men only got better as this past Monday they got their shut out at Muhlenberg.

Papen and Ellison won their No. 1 doubles 8-6, Rajes and Cywinski won their No. 2 doubles 8-1, and Boaté and Laux won their No. 3 doubles 8-0.

In singles, all six men defeated their opponents with relative ease, as not one of them needed to proceed to a third match and the closest match was a 6-4 defeat. Papen was a No. 1, Ellison at No. 2, Rajes at No. 3, Boaté at No. 4, Cywinski at No. 5, and Lisco at No. 6.

This winning streak gives the Men’s Tennis team a comfortable 5-1 conference record and a 7-4 record overall. They return for more this Saturday against Gettysburg College, another Centennial Conference foe.
