News stations want us to believe that Neil Armstrong, the first American man on the moon, took his first step out of the space shuttle on July 20, 1969. However, on that day, the United States witnessed Armstrong’s first step on the moon, he and his fellow astronauts had already been up on the moon for three months conducting research. The reason news stations chose a different date to air the story was because the NCAA Championship game was taking place during the space shuttles’ actual landing on the moon. On April 13, 1969, UCLA was beating Purdue in the NCAA Championship game. Newscasters believed that audiences would not change their television channel to watch the shuttle landing.

On April 10, 1969, the Pittsburgh Penguins lost a dear friend. The body of Iceburgh, the mascot of the Penguins organization, was found in the storage closet of the Shark Tank Arena in San Jose, Calif. The Penguins were scheduled to play the San Jose Sharks, but when Iceburgh was found after the first intermission, officials postponed the game. It was later determined that the Shark’s mascot, S.J. Sharkie, was behind Iceburgh’s death. Apparently Sharkie had decided to indulge in an afternoon snack before the game.
