“This will get Washington College on the national stage,” stated President Mitchell Reiss at the press conference today in the skybox at the stadium. “To have a group like the WWE want to come here and have their event outdoors is pretty special.”
Raw has been held since Jan. 11, 1993 when it was held at the Manhattan Center in New York City.
Pro wrestling events have been held outdoors on many occasions. Some of these outdoor events have been 1992 Summerslam was held in London at Wembley Stadium, Wrestlemania IX in 1993 was held in Las Vegas and Wrestlemania XVIII this past Sunday was held at Dolphins Stadium.
To make the stadium seat 7,500 for the event, temporary bleachers will be put in the north and west ends of the stadium and there will be 3,000 seats on the field itself. The wrestlers will enter the stadium through the south end, and there will be the custom mega-screen better-known as the TitanTron that is used at most WWE events.
WC Athletics Broadcasting & Mascot Coordinator Conner Fleegle is excited for the event, especially when he heard C.M. Punk is going to be there.
“I am thrilled for the event,” said Fleegle, “and I became even more excited when I heard Punk is on the card. I will be ecstatic when “Cult of Personality” comes on and he comes out!”
Along with Punk, scheduled to appear will be The Rock, John Cena, Sheamus, Randy Orton, Brock Lesnar, The Miz, and Beth Phoenix, amongst other wrestlers.
The event should be a boon for Chestertown businesses as people will flock to the area prior to the event.
Hunter Hearst Helmsley, who represented the WWE at the conference, thinks this will be a great event.
“We have always had great crowds in Baltimore, Philadelphia and Washington, DC, and Chestertown will be no exception. The fans will have a great time at the event, and I am excited to see a Raw outside. This is a beautiful campus and this is going to be a great environment to host Raw,” said Helmsley.
Tickets will go on sale on May 8 in Hodson Hall for students, alums and employees and if you present your WC ID Card, you get 10 percent off of your ticket. On May 15, the remaining seats will go on sale through Ticketmaster. Tickets will be $25, $30 and $35, depending on location.
