Sitting on the edge of their seat as the second half began, the crowd looked on wondering if the score would linger at 0-0 for the entire game. The Washington College Field Hockey team, fighting for a win took their break to find the weakness of their foe. The second half was all WC, and the field hockey team pulled out a 3-0 victory.
As the second half opened, the Shorewomen took the field and began a strategy to fight the Stevenson Mustangs. The first half had been filled with an evenly matched opponent but the Shorewomen knew they had work to do. After a half of cornerkicks and both sides being scoreless, the Shorewomen under McAuliffe scored the first goal with 19:12 to go in the second half.
Claire McAuliffe, a sophomore, was the star of the day as she went on to score her second goal twelve minutes later continuing to prove her skill on the offense this season. The team appeared to be stronger in the second half as they continued to stand their ground against the Mustangs.
Then with under two minutes to go, the Mustangs lost the ball and the Shorewomen‘s Kristen Wille scored the last goal of the evening ending the night with a shutout over the Mustangs.
The crowd cheered and was ecstatic as the game grew more and more intense during the second half. However, without the goalie for the Shorewomen, junior Steph Harryman, who made five saves, the Shorewomen would not have had their second shutout for this season. The field hockey team will go on to play Swarthmore and Muhlenberg this week and return to home Oct. 13.
