The field hockey squad has made it a habit to win in overtime. In fact, they have amassed four wins in OT in 2012. The most recent OT win however, was far from the norm for the program. On Wednesday WC beat Ursinus College 3-2 in overtime at Roy Kirby Junior Stadium, the first ever win for the Shorewomen over the perennial hockey powerhouse.

The hero of the day was Hilary Manion, who scored the game winner 4:18 into overtime to finish a back-and-forth game. The Shorewomen got on the board first as well, when junior midfielder/defender Heather Noto scored just over six minutes into the game on a redirected pass from sophomore Claire McAuliffe.

Ursinus answered later in the first half, knotting it up at 1-1 just over two minutes after Noto’s goal. WC would take the lead again when sophomore Kate Duggan scored but Ursinus would score a heartbreaking equalizer with just 2:02 remaining in regulation.

Manion took it upon herself to score the final goal and give the team the historic win in overtime. After having two shots saved, she finally knocked home the game-winner and the team was able to celebrate their first ever win over UC. Fitting for upcoming Halloween, it was the lucky 13th try for the Shorewomen but they finally bested the Bears.
