- The New York Mets won the first National League Championship in team history on Oct. 6, 1969, defeating the Braves 7-4 to complete a three-game sweep.
- On Oct. 8, 1956, in a 2-0 win over Brooklyn in Game Five of the World Series at Yankee Stadium, Don Larsen of the Yankees achieved the only perfect game in World Series history.
- The Cubs forced a World Series Game 7 against the Tigers on Oct. 8, 1945, when Stan Hack drives in the winning run in the 12th inning as the Cubs beat the Tigers 8-7. Two days later the C ubs lost the series against the Tigers and the World Series with a score of 9-3.
- On Oct. 10, 1920, the Cleveland Indians won a best of nine game series against Brooklyn, five games to two, to win the World Series. Elmer Smith’s grand slam was the first in World Series history, Bagby’s home run was the first by a pitcher in World Series history, and Bill Wambsganss’ unassisted triple play, which still remains the only unassisted triple play in World Series history, were all significant contributions to the fifth game win in League Park, Cleveland.
- Before a crowd of 50,323 on Oct. 10, 1973, Tom Seaver and Tug McGraw engineered a combined total of seven hits as the New York Mets won their second NL Pennant with a 7-2 victory over Cincinnati in the deciding game of the series.
- On Oct. 11, 1969, the New York Mets played in the first World Series game in the team’s history. The Baltimore Orioles defeated the Mets 4-1 in Baltimore. The next day on Oct. 12, the Mets won a World Series game for the first time in team history. This was a 2-1 victory over the Orioles in Baltimore. Two days later on Oct. 14, the Mets played the first ever World Series home game in team history. This game ended in a 5-0 victory over the Orioles.
- On Oct. 16, 1969, Donn Clendenon and Al Weis scored home runs while Jerry Koosman pitched a five-hitter as the Mets won their first World Championship with a 5-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. In front of 57,397 fans the Mets made World Series history.
- On Oct. 12, 1907, the Cubs beat the Tigers 2-0 to claim the first World Series title in Major League Baseball history.
