On Oct. 15, 1939, from kick formation, standing deep in his own end zone, Frank Filchock of the Washington Redskins flipped a pass to Andy Farkas, who breaks loose for what would become a 99-yard touchdown. It remains the longest pass completion in NFL history.

The Patriots set team records for most points in a game (59) and total net yards (619) in a 59-0 victory over the Tennessee Titans in snowy conditions at Gillette Stadium on Oct. 18, 2009. Tom Brady set an NFL record with five touchdown passes in the second quarter.

This season in the NFL the fans had to endure bad calls from replacement referees because the regular NFL referees were on strike. On Oct. 19, 1987 the players in the National Football League went on strike. The league hired replacement players to fill in for the scheduled season games. The Washington Redskins’ replacements went 3-0, including defeating Dallas 13-7 at Texas Stadium. NFL players returned to the field the following week.

Matt Stover of the Baltimore Ravens broke the NFL record for most consecutive games with a field goal on Oct. 21, 2001. Stover broke Fred Cox’s old record of 31 games, when he kicked two three-pointers in a 24-14 loss to the Cleveland Browns at Cleveland Browns Stadium. Stover’s streak ended at 38 games with a field goal attempt on Dec. 16 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

On Oct. 21, 2007 New England Patriots Quarterback Tom Brady threw a franchise-record six touchdown passes in a 49-28 win over the Dolphins. His 158.3 passer rating in the game is the first perfect rating in Patriots history.

Washington Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall intercepted four passes, all in the second half, to help lead his lead to a 17-14 win over the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field on Oct. 24, 2010. He returned one of the interceptions 92 yards for a touchdown. Hall’s four picks tied an NFL record with 19 others, including Redskins’ Sammy Baugh and Dan Sandifer.

On Oct. 25, 1986, Game Six of the World Series between the New York Mets and the Boston Red Sox had a dramatic ending. The Mets were down by two runs in the bottom of the 10th inning. Mookie Wilson hit a ground ball through the legs of Boston first basemen Bill Buckner and Wilson’s teammate Ray Knight was able to come home which gave the Mets a 6-5 victory over the Sox.

On Oct. 25, 2009 the Patriots played their first game on foreign soil as part of the NFL’s International Series in front of 84,000 fans at London’s historic Wembley Stadium. The Patriots defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 35-7.
Game Seven of that same series was delayed one day because of rain, but on Oct. 27, 1986, the Mets defeated the Boston Red Sox 8-5 to become World Champions for the second time in franchise history.

Washington Redskin wide receiver Gary Clark earned 241 receiving yards (on 11 catches) to break teammate Art Monk’s club record, but the Redskins lost on Oct. 27, 1986 27-20 to the New York Giants on Monday Night Football.
