- Mike Bossy became the first New York Islander and first rookie in NHL history to score 50 goals in a season on April 1, 1978. He achieved this in a 3-2 win against the Washington Capitals.
- The New York Rangers helped the Islanders clinch their first-ever playoff berth by defeating Atlanta, 3-2, to eliminate the Flames from the final playoff spot in the Campbell Conference on April 4, 1975.
- The New York Islanders clinched their second-straight playoff berth on April 4, 2003, as the New York Rangers lost at home to the New Jersey Devils, 2-1.
- With a 5-4 win over the Washington Capitals at the Nassau Coliseum, the New York Islanders clinched their first playoff berth in eight seasons on April 6, 2002. This win also snapped a 22-game winless streak versus the Caps dating back to 1997.
- On April 8, 2001, Ron Tugnutt of the Columbus Blue Jackets made 29 saves to defeat the Chicago Blackhawks 4-3 in overtime and pick up his 22nd win of the season to set a new NHL record for wins by a goaltender on an expansion team.
