The Washington College women’s lacrosse team has reached a national ranking of 18th in the most recent IWLCA lacrosse ranking. This is the highest the team has been ranked in over a dozen years.
The Shorewomen showed their dominance again on Saturday in a home match against Muhlenberg, handing Muhlenberg a decisive 22-6 defeat. The team got off to a slow start, finding themselves tied at 4-4 during the first half before finding their rhythm and exploding for seven more goals, taking an 11-5 lead before heading into the second half.
The team did not seem to lose any momentum during the halftime break, as they returned to the field to continue their barrage of scoring, combining their first half efforts with another string of seven unanswered goals.
Many members of the team contributed to the win, with a variety of players racking up some impressive stats. Senior Marissa Restaino led all players with four goals, and freshman Carley Kendall, senior Mollie Shipley, senior Corinne Ziccardi and junior Carly Eisenbrandt chipped in three goals apiece.
Looking ahead, the Shorewomen have nothing but opportunities to continue to prove themselves worthy of their national ranking. The Shorewomen will travel to Bryn Mawr on Wednesday, a team they defeated 18-7 in April of 2012.
On Saturday, the women will host conference rival Dickinson. The Shorewomen’s six seniors, who have done incredible things for the program since their freshman year, will be honored during the game. Dickinson is an important conference matchup, as the Red Devils slid by the Shorewomen in 2012 on a 7-6 victory. Dickinson scored the game winner with under six minutes to play last year, and the girls are hungry to avenge that loss.
Come out to Roy Kibler Field on Saturday to watch both lacrosse teams take on Dickinson at 4 p.m. in a double header, with huge conference implications for both teams.
