Closing out at home to the Catholic University Cardinals, the Shorewomen hoped to end their season on a high note, but ultimately fell 1-0.

The Cardinals and the Shorewomen began the battle even as both teams were evenly matched. Though the Catholic Cardinals competed hard on offense, the Shorewomen countered with strong defense.

Communication was key for this team and they had to make sure they could work together to win in the next half.

The second half opened with a WC shot on the goal, but was quickly matched by a strong Cardinals defense.

Sophomore forward Bailey Howard said, “It takes a lot of physical and mental strength to make it through a game like this. We fought hard even if they were deeper.”

The two teams went into overtime to try to finish the other off. With a header off a corner kick, the Catholic Cardinals scored and the Shorewomen fell in overtime.

Barry said, “I am really proud of the team. We fought over ninety minutes, but we never gave up.”

Freshman Katie Doyle also said, “Our team is a family. We will only grow from here.”

After the match Coach Drugan said, “The team has grown a lot more compared to last year. Everything got better and more organized. We had great senior leadership and we played nine freshman. This was a great season to launch from for next year.”

Looking ahead, the Shorewomen will do better next year with greater experience spread across the roster. In time, they will surge into the playoffs.
