Hero of the Week: Starbucks

This issue’s Hero of the Week honors supreme coffee overlord Starbucks and its latest concoction, the unicorn frappucino. Having already ended its lifespan as of April 23, the drink now lives in legend, leaving only traces of its brief but beautiful existence on social media.

The drink, according to Starbucks, included, “A sweet dusting of pink powder, blended into a crème Frappuccino with mango syrup and layered with a pleasantly sour blue drizzle. It is finished with vanilla whipped cream and a sprinkle of sweet pink and sour blue powder topping.”
Reactions to this phenomenon were mixed, at best, but the aesthectic of a deep pink and blue coffee drink completely overshadowed any criticism. The level of brand awareness in such a short timeframe is something envied by any company ever.
While the time may have passed for this edible source of marketing, its legacy is sure to live on for weeks to come, until the next fantasy inspired drink comes along. My bet’s on a brown, smokey Sasquatch smoothie.
