Meet Ty, a pit bull available for adoption at the Humane Society of Kent County. Ty is a little over a year old, and he has a light brown coat and beautiful caramel eyes.
Kennel Technician JP Hooker said, “Ty was surrendered by his previous owner. She had Multiple Sclerosis, so she couldn’t take care of him anymore.”
It was thought that Ty would quickly find his forever home, but he is still waiting to find his future owner. “Ty has been here for at least a few months, and he is a good dog,” Hooker said.
During his time at the Humane Society
, Ty has picked up some intellectual pursuits. Some psychology students from Washington College recently used Ty as a participant in their experiment, and Ty proved to be a great case study.
“Two groups of three students did a paper and presentation on animal behavior and training. So, for like three weeks they came in and worked with dogs, and one of the groups worked with Ty,” Hooker said. “They did basic training like ‘sit’ and all that, and Ty really did learn something. He definitely gained something out of it.”
In addition to learning obedience skills, Ty has become friends with the other dogs and staff at the Humane Society. “He’s a good boy. He’s strong, playful, and he’s pretty willing to learn,” Hooker said.
Potential adopters should know that, “Ty seems to be friendly with other dogs, but he would probably do best without cats, because [his previous owner] told us that Ty was once attacked by a cat.” Other than this,
“[He] is pretty well-mannered,” Hooker said.
WC students have already helped Ty by teaching him basic commands, but they can continue to assist this pawsome pup by spreading the word about Ty and the Humane Society of Kent County. The Humane Society is currently full of dogs, which makes it a great time for those interested in adopting to head over to the shelter.
The Humane Society recently reached full capacity and strongly encourage adoptions of both dogs and cats. If anyone in the Chestertown community, WC faculty and staff members, or even students with families are interested in rescuing the talented Ty, please contact the Humane Society of Kent County at 410-778-3648 or by emailing info@kenthumane.org.
