Washington College volleyball athletes in preseason haven’t just been adjusting to a rigorous workout schedule. They have been adjusting to the various high schools and colleges where preseason is held.

Due to the renovations occurring in the Cain Athletic Center, they have had to relocate preseason to wherever is available, such as Queen Anne’s High School, Chesapeake College, and Kent County High School.

“The team has been dealing with all of the re-location very well. We’ve used this opportunity to really learn about each other as a team and as individuals. We have seven freshmen on the team this season so learning about each other and getting to know each other has been an important part of our preseason. And spending time with each other on the road to our practice facilities we’ve gotten a chance to really learn about each other,” said Head Coach Jamie Leventry.

The team moved back to the newly renovated gym on Monday, Sept. 4.

Although a gym renovation during preseason may not have been ideal, but this could make the team more versatile on the road and prove to give them a more successful season.

Leventry also shared some of the features the women’s volleyball players and spectators can look forward to as the season begins.

“We’re really excited about the new windows and the new floor. The new windows really brighten up the gym and make for a bright facility. The new floor is fantastic and will be one of the premier courts in our conference. We’re very excited to get back in our gym and practice,” he said.

The team looks strong this year with five returning seniors all capable of leading the team to victory, especially with 13 home matches this season. The team is looking forward to defending their home court this year.
