Upon walking into the Humane Society of Kent County, visitors are always warmly greeted by staff members at the front desk, and by the front office’s resident cat, Beanie.
Beanie is a 7-year-old tuxedo cat with bright green eyes and an equally bright smile.
He has uncharacteristically wrinkled little ears, which, along with his personality, makes him easy to distinguish among the other cats.
While most cats come to the Humane Society as drop-offs or strays, Beanie was abandoned.
“Beanie was actually left in a house. The people moved out and left him there,” said Kennel Technician Mary Johnston.
The staff at the shelter thought that Beanie would quickly find a home with his cute appearance and personality. For some reason, though, Beanie has been overlooked for months.
“Beanie has been here since July, and we don’t really know why. He’s hands down the most personable cat up for adoption. He’s not a kitten, but he’s just such a great cat,” she said.
According to Johnston, Beanie is always happy when he meets new people. “We think he was a talk show host in a former life because he’s so social.”
Not only does Beanie do well with humans of all sorts, but he gets along well with other cats.
“He loves to tend to the younger kittens,” she said. “You can usually find him either with the kittens or by his food bowl.”
“We’ve also caught him sitting in some pretty weird positions. We call it cat yoga,” she said.
Beanie has never met a dog, but he would likely be fine, as long as they are as friendly as he is. Otherwise, Beanie has no adoption restrictions. Johnston said that he would do especially well with children.
Because Beanie is 7 years old, he has a lower adoption fee than most of the animals at the Humane Society of Kent County, as he is considered a “senior” pet. Don’t be deceived by that title, though, as Beanie still has a boatload of energy and love.
If anyone in the Chestertown community, WC faculty and staff members, or even students with families are interested in rescuing Beanie, please contact the Humane Society of Kent County at 410-778-3648 or by emailing info@kenthumane.org.
