Meet Cooper, an orange and white cat available for adoption at the Humane Society of Kent County.
Cooper was found roaming the streets of Chestertown.
“We got a call for animal control to go out and get a stray cat that had been found. Eric, one of our animal control officers, went out and trapped Cooper and brought him in,” said Kennel Technician JP Hooker. “Cooper was initially on stray hold, but no one came in for him so now he’s up for adoption.”
He was named Cooper because he was found on a street called Coopers Lane, according to Hooker.
Because Cooper came from an unknown background, the staff does not know how long Cooper had been a stray. Despite roughing it in the wild outdoors, Cooper is a great cat.
“He’s a very sweet cat. He lives in our free roaming colony so he gets along well with other cats, but he’s also kind of independent and likes to get outside and have some alone time every once in a while,” he said.
Cooper’s free spirited nature makes him seem like a younger cat, but this is not the case.
“Cooper’s actually a senior. We aren’t sure of his age, but he’s over 7-years-old,” he said.
Cooper has a lot of love to give in his senior years, and providing a home for him is easier than ever this month.
“We have a feline frenzy promotion for the month of November, and all senior cats are free for the entire month,” he said.
The Humane Society’s staff hopes that Cooper and the several other senior cats there will benefit from this promotion.
“Senior cats are awesome because they’re low maintenance and already litter box trained,” he said. “Cooper’s a perfect example of that. He’s a pretty chill, relaxed cat. He’s adjusted really well here at the shelter and I think he’s handsome.”
In addition to the senior cat deal, the Humane Society has barn cats that are always free to a good home. The shelter will also be offering other promotions for younger cats throughout the month of November.
