Men’s Swimming
Junior Seth Wrigley had a strong showing last weekend for the Shoremen. He finished first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 53.81 seconds, and second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:02.65.
Two freshmen competed well for the Shoremen in the same event. Andrew Feeley placed first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:59.07. Brett Edwards, a prior Shoremen of the Week honoree, placed second in the 200-yard backstroke with 2:14.42. In his first year swimming for Washington College, sophomore Jake Brown placed second in two events. He finished with a time of 1:48.06 in the 200-yard freestyle, and a time of 48.46 in the 100-yard freestyle.
Two other Shoremen added second-place finishes in the meet. Senior team captain Cody Weiler finished the 50-yard freestyle in 21.80, while sophomore Aidan Sullivan completed the 200-yard individual medley in 2:02.62.
The Shoremen fell to 1-2 overall on the season, and 1-1 in Centennial Conference meets.
“We swam hard and it was a tough loss against a good team. Our focus now is just to keep training hard and look towards our next meets,” sophomore Dave Rovansek said.
Women’s Swimming
Junior Julia Portmann won three individual events for the Shorewomen against Gettysburg College last weekend.
The Shorewomen won 4 of the 14 events in their defeat of Gettysburg College with a score of 164.5-96.5.
“We did not do quite as good as we wanted to, but we still swam hard and cheered each other on throughout the entire meet,” sophomore Ana Reynoso said.
Portmann took home first-place finishes in the 200-yard, 500-yard, and 1,000-yard freestyle.
Senior Jenni Clune won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:09.74. She finished second in the 100-yard freestyle with 55.09 and added another second place finish in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:18.25.
Two more second-place finishes for the Shorewomen came from senior captain Katie Gorman and sophomore Lindsay Wiecki.
Gorman earned a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.03, while Wiecki was second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:03.10.
The Shorewomen fell to 1-2 on the season, and 1-1 in Centennial Conference meets with the loss.
The men’s and women’s swim teams host Swarthmore as their next competitor. The meet will take place in WC’s Casey Swim Center on Nov. 11. Both teams will begin competition at 1 p.m.
