The Shoremen played two games this week at home versus Goucher and Muhlenberg. The Shoremen beat Goucher 5-2 on Tuesday, Oct. 23, which was a season high in goals scored in one game.
They would go on to lose their final conference game in double overtime versus Muhlenberg 2-1 on Saturday, Oct. 27 at home.
Saturday night’s game served as the Shoremen’s senior game, and was the last game of their season.
Tuesday’s game against Goucher was the Shoremen’s final non-conference game of the season.
The Shoremen started off strong when Senior Brian Graham headed a long cross kick by senior Christian Keller into the net 3:18 into the game.
The Gophers evened the score with a goal at 24:53, but the Shoremen were able to regain the lead just 14 seconds after. Sophomore Greg Adams scored off an assist from fellow sophomore Frank Koons.
Not even two minutes into the second half, freshman Joe Mutscheller scored his first collegiate goal and the Shoremen’s third goal off a pass by senior Kevin Sawyer.
Sophomore Remy Kriz scored the fourth goal for the Shoremen, his first collegiate goal, with an assist by Adams at 75:31.
Junior Sean Garin headed in the Shoremen’s fifth and final goal off a corner kick from Kriz with 6:06 left in the half. This was the defenseman’s first collegiate goal.
The Shoremen barely had an edge in shots 14-13 and were dead even with 6-6 shots on goal. But the Shoremen’s goalkeeper, sophomore Gavin Campbell’s three saves were able to keep the Shoremen in line.
This game was the first time the Shoremen have scored five goals since last season.
Saturday’s senior night game versus Muhlenberg was a 2-1 loss for the Shoremen in double overtime. On Saturday night, fans and team members alike recognized Pat O’Neal, Christian Keller, Kevin Sawyer, David McSwain, Kyle Kirwan, Brian Graham, Matt Rannie, and Aaron Barclay, commending them for the past four years.
The Shoremen’s first shot on goal was by sophomore James Strine 22:50 into the game. This shot was saved by a Muhlenberg defender, which gave the Shoremen a corner kick by Strine. Strine provided a kick to the top of the box that was headed into the goal by Adams.
Senior goalie Josh Samuels made the first three of his eight saves of the game next, when Muhlenberg offenders made three shot attempts in the first half alone.
The Mules opened up the second half with more shots on target, resulting in the 1-1 tie that would bring the game into overtime.
Muhlenberg and Washington College went scoreless in the first overtime session. Junior Liam Mansfield made a shot attempt for WC, but it was saved by Muhlenberg’s goalie. In the second portion of overtime, the Mules took advantage of a WC faulty reception and scored in the 105th minute, ending the game 2-1.
The Shoremen finished their season 6-2-2 at home, 0 6-8-3 overall, and 2-5-2 in the Centennial Conference.
