The Washington College women’s basketball team took on Notre Dame of Maryland University on Wednesday, Nov. 14 and played in the Nonno Alby’s Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 17 and Sunday, Nov. 18, where they played against Ohio Wesleyan University and Penn State Schuylkill. They started conference play with Swarthmore on Tuesday, Nov. 20.

The Shorewomen beat Notre Dame of Maryland 66-44. Junior forward Cassidy Quattro scored a career high and led the team with 17 points. Senior Emily Thiemann had a team high as well, with eight rebounds. Freshman Crystal Jones had three assists and a contest high of three steals. Senior Kristi Kozlowski, junior Bridget McLaughlin, and sophomore Heather Rohwein all had three assists.

Junior Rosie Martin is feeling confident after their win against the Gators as they head towards more competition in the season.

“I think we are feeling really good after our win against Notre Dame. I think it is a great way to start off the season that we won our first official game, and especially because it was at home is always a bonus,” she said. “I think the closer we get to conference play the more and more comfortable we will get playing together since we have a lot of new kids on the team.”

On Nov. 17 against Ohio Wesleyan, the Shorewomen fell short, losing 70-53.

McLaughlin led the team in scoring with 17 points and four assists. Junior Taylor Samuels led the teams in rebounds with five.

Despite the ups and downs of the season so far, freshman guard Olivia Levin is still excited for what the team will do in upcoming competitions.

“This year as long as we continue to work hard and communicate, I think it will be a very successful season,” she said.

The Shorewomen took on Penn State Schuylkill on Nov. 18 for their tournament consolation game, where they won 73-20. Levin set a personal best, scoring 19 points. She earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team from her performance.

Quattro led the team in rebounds with 10, a contest high. Thiemann had a high of three blocks in the game.

This win was the Shorewomen’s largest margin victory since their win over Bryn Mawr in the 2013-2014 season, where they won 88-23.

The whole team is confident with conference play approaching.

“Feeling very optimistic this season that we are going to compete at a high level,” Head Coach Alisha Mosely said.

The team played Swarthmore College on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at home and won 55-51. McLaughlin scored a career high of 19 points, four assists and six rebounds. Quattro had nine points and seven rebounds, and senior guard Caitlin Clark had five points, five assists, and eight rebounds. McLaughlin was named Goose Nation TV Shorewomen Player of the Game.

The Shorewomen are currently 3-1 in their season, with 21 games to be played. This is their best start to a season in head coach Alisha Mosley’s six-year career at WC.

The Shorewomen take on Centennial Conference competitor The Green Terror on Nov. 26 away at McDaniel College.
