The Women’s Soccer Team took on Ursinus College, away, on Wednesday, Oct. 24 and played Muhlenberg College, at home for senior day, on Saturday, Oct. 27.
The Shorewomen unfortunately lost to Ursinus 0-1, but it was a well fought game with senior Olivia Sabatino having five shots on goal and sophomore goalie Annalie Buscarino having three saves during the game.
The loss earlier in the week didn’t discourage the team, however, and instead they brought out the fire and secured a 2-0 victory over Muhlenberg to celebrate their senior day.
Before the contest began, the team honored their seniors Courtney Colbert, Lindsay Russell, Arianna Sabatino, Picabo French, Olivia Sabatino, and Lauren Neary.
This victory secured the Shorewomen their first-ever winning season and their first win over the Mules in 21 meetings.
Both goals were scored in the first half, the first by Olivia Sabatino and the second by senior Arianna Sabatino.
Twenty minutes into the game, Olivia Sabatino received a pass from freshman Emily Jacoby and scored the first of two goals for the Shorewomen.
In the beginning of the second half, Arianna scored the second goal off a pass from Russell, solidifying the win for the Shorewomen and setting the record-high with her sister, both having scored 20 goals in their careers at Washington College.
Both Arianna and Olivia Sabatino were named Goose Nation TV Shorewomen Players of the game, as they both finished their careers with 20 goals scored each. Both Sabatino twins made their mark in WC women’s soccer history. They now both hold the title for highest career goals.
Senior Courtney Colbert also now holds the school record for goals allowed per game, at 1.63.
This season was one of record-highs for the Shorewomen, as they finished their season on the winning side for the first time in program history, finishing 4-6-0 in conference play and 8-6-1 overall.
