The Washington College administration, with the help of donations from alumni, has decided to start construction on a brand-new state-of-the-art full-sized indoor/outdoor waterpark on top of the Casey Swim Center.

The waterpark is planned to be open and ready for tourism and use by the spring semester of 2020.

The College made the decision to add new construction because they found through many public studies that more college-students being diagnosed with health issues at alarming rates.

One of the administrators and executives on the project, Roz Oozing Blossom, said, “a waterpark is a great way to relieve stress after a long and arduous week of classes, exams, labs, and so on.”

Also, this will allow for the swim team to have a competitive advantage over all other swim teams they compete against.

The addition of the waterpark does not break any NCAA rules in terms of the size of the swimming pool. This is because the pool in the waterpark is a standard Division III pool size. Any additional accessories to NCAA pools are allowed and are left to the Athletic Department to manage.

The swim team is hoping to set more records, increase their endurance and revolutionize what the standard pool actually looks like.

The team will be training with the slides and various fountains in an effort to build endurance, stimulate creativity, and enjoy their swimming experience at WC.

“I can’t wait to go to practice so I can begin my races with a double front flip off the edge of the slide after I come down,” said junior swimmer Michelle Phelps. “I’m super stoked to come over the summer, too. It seems like it will be a lot of fun.”

With this addition, hopefully the sport of swimming will become more popular around campus, and around town as well.

WC’s Athletic Director, Shaq, is excited about the new construction and said he looks forward to bringing his family to the waterpark on the weekends in the summer.

“I think the waterpark will bring in some community members, which is always a great thing to see on campus,” he said. “This waterpark will turn into a small-scale tourist attraction for some people, which will help in spreading the word about when the swim meets are.”

Shaq said he hopes that by the Casey Swim Center gaining more attention, the swim meet attendance rates will increase.

There are some stipulations behind using this new waterpark. If you are a WC student, you must complete the swim test before using the facilities.

Citizens of Chestertown and the entire public are allowed to use the waterpark, but they will have to pay to use it and sign a waiver.

Overall, the plans for the addition have invoked excitement across campus and students look forward to seeing the final product.
