The men’s lacrosse team continued Centennial Conference play this past week, starting off with a win against Muhlenberg College and another win just two days later against non-Centennial Conference opponent Colorado College.
On Friday, April 5, senior Casey Grieves put Washington College on the board with 5:32 left in the first quarter against Muhlenberg.
The goal came with WC already at a 2-0 deficit. At the end of the first quarter, the score was 3-1.
Even with 10 shots on goal for the Shoremen, it would remain that way the entire second quarter.
The third quarter began with a bang—three goals finding the back of the net in just 4:12.
Senior Trey Ritter assisted Grieves for the first goal, senior Brady O’Neill scored just 30 seconds later, and the go-ahead goal came off Junior Cody Pascale’s stick with 10:48 left in the third quarter.
The Mules evened the score at 4-4 before the end of the third.
Grieves once again put the team back on the attack with a goal just 36 seconds into the fourth quarter.
With only 5:20 left in the contest, the Shoremen found themselves with the 6-5 leading goal from senior Kevin Trapp.
The Shoremen ended up winning the contest 7-6 overall.
Grieves scored three goals on the night, and sophomore Chris Del Rosario found himself with 14 saves in the net, only allowing six goals in 60 minutes.
Using that momentum, WC never trailed in the game against Colorado College, improving their record to 5-6 overall.
With 4:30 left in the first quarter, there were already four balls in the back of the net for the Shoremen.
The goals came from Ritter, Grieves, senior Charlie Walker, and junior Cooper Sloan.
The Prowlers managed to get one back in the first quarter, but just two minutes later Ritter was able to reclaim the goal.
The Shoremen scored in every quarter, with another three in the second from Pascale, Trapp and Grieves.
Grieves was on fire in the middle of the contest, scoring another two goals in the third quarter.
He brought the total score to 10-4. The Shoremen are able to score two more times before the end of the quarter, to Colorado’s just one goal.
The Shoremen won the match 15-9, Grieves with four goals and two assists on the contest, leading him to have a game best six-point day.
Sloan finished with five points himself—one goal and four assists—while Pascale finished with three goals and two helpers.
Del Rosario had 22 saves to tie his career best saves in a game, as he also had 22 saves against No. 15 Christopher Newport University.
WC will take on No. 1 Salisbury University for War on the Shore at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, as part of the Goose Nation Family Reunion.
There will be a tent serving food on the south side of Roy Kirby Jr. stadium for the WC Athletics Family from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 13.
