You know that feeling of encountering an animal that is so darn cute, you just want to scoop it up, plop it in a glass of milk, and take it home? If you do not, come to the Animal Care Shelter of Kent County and meet Oreo, this week’s Pet of the Week!.
Oreo, the aptly named pile of monochromatic sweetness, is a Jack Russell Terrier and Pit Bull mix who has been at ACSKC for a few weeks. Despite her status as a senior dog, Oreo is a little spark plug mutt with endless curiosity and profound affection for creatures with both two legs and four. Oreo is friendly with other dogs, and no human’s lap is safe from cuddles, nor face exempt from excited greeting kisses. She’s a smaller dog, but is muscular, energetic, and sports the broad grin of a classic pittie.
Oreo is heartworm-positive. While undergoing her six-month treatment, it is best for her to stay in a calm environment with dedicated attention. Unfortunately, life at the shelter is not the most conducive to this. Therefore, Oreo is seeking a foster-to-adopt situation, in which her foster would care for her while the ACSKC continues to provide medical treatment. Once she is clear of heartworm, Oreo will be completely ready for her forever home.
Since she came to the shelter through an owner surrender, before which she had lived in one home since puppyhood, Oreo has had to process being left behind for the first time. While this experience did not dampen her spirit, she is likely to become quite attached to her new people, and therefore would find an ideal family with someone who would be home most of the time. Oreo would also love to be included in the goings-on of domestic life. She would greatly enjoy a human who could bring her along as a partner-in-crime for some gentle adventures.
This sweet old girl has had some shake-ups in her situation lately, but has remained affectionate and excited about life. Her condition has not quelled her spitfire attitude toward the world, one she cannot wait to share with her forever family when they find her.
If you are interested in adopting Oreo, you can fill out an adoption application online or in person at the Animal Care Shelter of Kent County at 10720 Augustine Herman Highway, Chestertown, MD, or call at 410-778-3648.
