For the first time in school history, the Washington College Women’s Soccer team has shut out all of their opponents, outscoring them 9-0. The team, with three wins under their belt already, took on Rosemont College on Saturday, Aug. 31, and Rutgers University-Camden branch just one week later.

With the 6-0 win over the Ravens, Junior Megan Klink scored a third of the goals on the day and freshman Rachel Chatfield scored the Shorewomen’s first goal with 23:17 left in the first half, with a shot from over 20 yards away.

They upped that to two with 17:15 to go when Freshman Gillian Slavick found the back of the net. With 14:20 to go, the lead continued to grow when sophomore Brianna Parise beat the goalie.

Klink was able to score the fourth and sixth goals of the day, with Sophomore Erin O’Reilly’s goal sandwiched in the middle. Klink would go on to be named the Goose Nation TV Shorewomen Player of the Game.

In the game, Klink picked up two goals, while O’Reilly, Slavick, Parise, and Chatfield all had one goal each. Freshman Katie Brennan and Paige O’Connell both had assists.

“It feels pretty cool knowing that we have good squad and started off the season strong,” said freshman Elena Hilario. “Especially with the girls we have on the team, we all use the momentum we get from a win to help us push harder in the next game.”

Using that momentum, the Shorewomen walked onto the turf of the Scarlet Raptors’ stadium and took it by storm. Just 2:09 into the first half, Slavick fed a ball to O’Reilly, who found the back of the net to start the game off on the right foot for WC. With 14:39 to go before halftime, O’Reilly would again steal the show by taking a pass from senior Cayla Marcinko and blowing it past Rutgers- Camden’s goalkeeper.

Junior Annalie Buscarino and sophomore Noah Smith split time in the cage, both playing for 45 minutes. Buscarino, a two-time Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week goalkeeper, had just one save and allowed no goals. Smith, who has a 75% save percentage, had two saves and allowed no goals. In the contest, O’Reilly had two goals, and both Slavick and Marcinko had one assist apiece.

The Shorewomen are excited to continue this winning streak as they next face off against Hood College on Wednesday, Sept. 11.
