The Washington College field hockey team fell 3-0 to the Franklin and Marshall Diplomats during a game at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19 at Roy Kirby Jr. Stadium.

This was also Senior Day for the Shorewomen, as they celebrated their four seniors: Sophia Grabiec, Kylie Weiss, Jessie Willey, and Abby McGowan.

The match started off as a tie for the first two quarters, leaving the Shorewomen and Diplomats at a standstill for the majority of the match.

Suddenly, going into the third quarter, the Diplomats garnered two goals within 10 minutes of each other.  The first was scored by Darby Klopp and the second by Lily Mynott.

Klopp scored her second goal of the match, and third overall for the Diplomats with less than 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter, after finding the back corner of the net with junior Kayla Zapcic who remained in goal.

“We put everything we had into the game.” Zapcic said. “We put up a solid fight.”

Junior Kailyn Brandt was later named Goose Nation TV Shorewomen Player of the Game, as she led the team with two shutouts and had one near goal in the first half.

The Shorewomen will face off against non-conference opponent Wesley College at 7 p.m. at Kirby Stadium on Thursday, Oct. 24.

This will be their last non-conference game of the season, as well as their third to last game of the regular season.

After facing off against Franklin and Marshall, the Shorewomen fell to 3-10 overall and 2-6 in conference play on a streak of three losses.

Franklin and Marshall maintain their national ranking as no. 10 in the country.
