They say that first impressions are everything, yet an initial meeting can sometimes prove deceptive. Maybe you caught that person on a bad day, they are stressed out, or they ran out of cat food again, gosh darn it. Give them some time and they blossom. Cross, this week’s Pet of the Week, proves this.
Cross is a delightful little lily of a feline who has resided in the cat room at the Animal Care Shelter for Kent County for almost four months.
She arrived as a stray and was at first labeled as feral. But the staff quickly realized this was a mistake.
Cross is as sweet as they come. Open her kennel and she will immediately trot up and nuzzle her head against your hand, purring low like distant thunder. She is so social that she makes a weekly pilgrimage to Heron Point of Chestertown and loves bringing some four-legged joy to the retired community.
Middle-aged now, Cross walks with the wisdom of time and never gets too riled. She prefers to snuggle with the nearest human or flip over and mew for some more pets.
Despite her murky origins and time spent in the great outdoors, Cross has retained a crystalline beauty.
A Siamese mix, her coat is a light cream with rich cedar stripes on her lower legs and a brush of smooth gray over her ears. Her eyes are her most striking feature: clear blue like cut topaz, they shine with the seasoned calm so unique to wise, perceptive cats. Looking into them is hypnotic.
Because she is so mellow, Cross would do well in just about any loving home. She would thrive as a solo pet or with other cats. As long as she has a human with which to share her warmth, this sweet girl is more than content.
A staff favorite at the ACSKC, Cross has come a long way looking for home. It is high time this sagely feline makes a first impression on her people and goes home to where she can make a lasting one.
