Pet of the Week: Momma

There can be nobility in seeking excellence. Working hard to become the person one wants to be, as long as one does not sacrifice the positives they already have, is a fine goal.

But there is also a virtue in peace. Being content as one is can be an immensely powerful skill. Sometimes simply watching the world turn is the finest way to exist.

Momma, this week’s Pet of the Week, has figured this wisdom out.

Momma is a three-year-old feline who has meditated in the cat room of the Animal Care Shelter for Kent County for a few months.

She had been living under a porch and enjoying the company of the house’s owner, but after giving birth to kittens she was moved to ACSKC for her and the litter’s safety.

Her children have all been adopted, and now Momma is patiently awaiting her own terrestrial nirvana.

Momma is unusually friendly for a former stray. Coax her down from her kennel and she will immediately rub against the nearest leg and ask for chin scratches.

If one gets on her level, she will happily exchange a gentle headbutt.

The union of her worlds seems to be reflected in her coat — the tiger stripes on her legs, dapple-tabby darkness on her shoulders and ribs, and inquisitive light in her pale yellow-green eyes all speak of her wild past. But the warmth of human company shows in her patches of cinnamon fur, and the softness of her coat when she leans on one’s ankle and purrs gently for more attention.

Momma’s Zen world view allows her great prospects for a forever family in just about any loving home. She would be fine alone — more floor space for yoga — or with a fellow feline. She would especially love a family who could play with her in between meditation sessions, as she has a great love for toys.

This cat holds a wisdom beyond her years. In this ever-frenetic world, Momma reminds those around her to slow down and smell the catnip. She is waiting patiently for enlightenment at the hands of her forever family.

If you are interested in adopting Momma, you can fill out an adoption application online or in person at the Animal Care Shelter of Kent County at 10720 Augustine Herman Highway, Chestertown, MD, or call at 410-778-3648.
