Student activism near library calls out “toxic” culture on campus

On Thursday, Nov. 21, a message was spray chalked that read “Our campus culture is toxic. 7 is too many… #WACAGAINSTRAPISTS. You are not alone.” The chalk was located on the Cater Walk beside the Clifton Miller Library with “Trigger Warning” detours directing students to the library’s patio. The original message was removed and redone because the chalk used was potentially damaging to the Cater Walk. Associate Vice President of Student Affairs and Title IX Coordinator Dr. Candace Wannamaker said that the chalking is “a perfect way to jump start this conversation about rape and sexual assault.” This comes after a Nov. 14 Elm article which said that there was 7 reported cases of Title IX violations throughout the Fall 2019 semester. Not all reported violations occurred during this semester.
