With Thanksgiving Break right around the corner, it is necessary for students to know all the fashion-forward tips for how to dress for the holiday.

There seems to be a dress code for each holiday, especially when visiting your family is a key moment.

It is also important to consider current fashion trends and how you can look your best for the holiday, but also stay comfortable while you enjoy turkey, stuffing, and vegetables.

Casual or Formal?

The decision that needs to be made before choosing an outfit is whether or not the dinner or event is casual or formal.

If you are eating a Thanksgiving meal with your family at home, sweatpants and sweaters are a simple choice.

On the other hand, if you are going out to a nice dinner with your extended family, it would be better to dress up.

Dresses, skirts, or dress pants are the go-to option.

In terms of shoes, if you want to dress up an outfit, go with boots or heels.

To dress down an outfit or make it more casual, go with flats or sneakers.

Warm Colors

The fall season is known for its changing colors, so you want to make sure you are wearing some warmer colors.

These colors include red, orange, yellow, green, and brown. Any article of clothing can feature these colors, whether it is sweaters, dresses, or pants.

Be sure to avoid floral patterns, as they are more typical for the spring.

Patterns such as stripes or polka dots are more favorable during the fall holiday.

Sweaters and Corduroy

One element to consider when picking the perfect Thanksgiving outfit is the cool weather.

So, grab your warmest sweaters and thickest pants for dinner. You never know when you will have to head outside, especially given COVID-19 restrictions, and traveling from house to house will be easier with extra layers.

Sweaters and corduroy skirts or pants are perfect pieces for the holiday.

“Personally, I like to wear corduroy because it reminds me of fall; it’s classy, it’s nice, and it can be casual [or dressed up],” freshman Brynn Castellani said. “I usually wear a corduroy dress or pants and not a lot of colors.”

Sweaters are a great option for keeping warm and showing off the autumnal colors, while corduroy is versatile and can be incorporated into your outfit in many different ways.

Layers

Speaking of the cool weather, layering will help keep you warm and cozy during dinner.

If you ever get warm throughout the day, peeling off a jacket or sweater is an easy fix.

A solid-colored shirt or sweater can also be paired with either jeans or a patterned pair of pants. Regardless, jeans or joggers are always a reliable option for Thanksgiving.

The Classics

If you truly do not know what to wear for Thanksgiving, fall back onto familiar pieces.

Most young women love the combination of a sweater, a skirt, tights or leggings, and boots. And who can blame them? The outfit is cozy and cute, while also fitting the fall atmosphere.

For men, a button-up or sweater with jeans or dress pants is a nice option as well.

Regardless of how you dress this Thanksgiving, it is important to feel comfortable.
