Men’s and women’s swimming dominate against McDaniel Green Terror

The Shorewomen traveled to Westminster, Md. on Saturday, Nov. 13 to compete against the McDaniel College Green Terror in a Conference meet. The teams swam in 11 events, in which the Shoremen won all, racking up 80 points compared to the Green Terror’s 15.

Sophomore Laurel Krause won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.31 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 56.44 seconds. 

In the 100 breaststroke, senior Teresa Draves clutched first place with a time of 1:13.25. Draves also won first in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:18.08.

Junior Kristina Curley placed first in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:25.11. The 200 freestyle was won by freshman Emily Iampieri in 2:00.45. Freshman Kylee Smith won the 100 butterfly in 1:01.13. 

Freshman Lilly Hartmann won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.88, and sophomore Emma Schultz won the 500 freestyle in 5:34.71. 

The 400 medley relay team included Hartmann, Draves, Smith, and Iampieri. The Shorewomen were victorious with a time of 4:15.48 in the event. 

Senior Alexa Luecke, Iampieri, Krause, and Smith competed in the 400 freestyle relay team, winning with a time of 3:43.97. 

The Shorewomen are now 3–3 overall and their Conference record stands at 2–3. 

They will swim again on Saturday, Nov. 20 against out-of-Conference St. Mary’s College of Maryland at 1 p.m. 

The Shoremen also travelled to Westminster to compete against the Green Terror, in which the Shoremen won, 79–15. 

Sophomore Benjamin Wilson won two events: the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.02 and the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.55. Wilson raced the ninth fastest time in WC history in the 400 medley, winning with a time of 54.00. 

The 1000 freestyle was taken by freshman CJ Dunker in 10:33.13 and the 200 freestyle was won by freshman Jack Poleto with a time of 1:50.89. 

Freshman Zach Affeldt swam in the 200 individual medley, winning with a time of 2:06.24. 

The 100 butterfly was secured by Bianti Danaj with a time of 53.97. Senior Nate Braddock placed first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 50.45 and junior Gage Mandrell won the 500 freestyle in 4:51.92.

Sophomore Jay Dadhania won the final individual event, the 100 breaststroke, with a time of 1:05.89. 

In the relay team races, Wilson, Danaj, Mandrell, and freshman Chase Henson competed together in the 400 medley. They won with a time of 3:34.79.

The 400 freestyle relay team included Mandrell, Danaj, Hensen, and Braddock. The Shoremen won with a time of 3:18.79. 

The Shoremen are now 3–2 overall and 2–2 in Conference records. They will compete against St. Mary’s College of Maryland at 1 p.m on Saturday, Nov. 11 .
