Trap and skeet wins several events at ACUI Championship

The Washington College trap and skeet team competed in the 2021 Associations of College Unions International East Coast Conference Championships in Glenn Dale, Md. on Sunday, Nov. 7.

The team won the Team Skeet, Doubles Skeet, and Doubles Trap with second place achievements in Team Trap and Super Sporting.

According to the WC Athletics website, this was the best the team has ever performed in this Championship.

WC placed second overall in the Championship. First place was earned by Liberty University.

“It has been great to see this team grow from the first year as a varsity sport to where we are now,” senior William Sears said. “I couldn’t be happier with my team, they all put in the work on and off the range to better themselves and the team.”

In the Team Skeet, the team ended with the best score of 485. Juniors Sean Scott and Greg Carpenter, sophomores Halley Donati and Gage Williams, and freshman Hunter Clark shot together to achieve this.

Sears, junior Carter Weems, Williams, Clark, and Carpenter shot to achieve the Team Trap second-place score of 463.

The team placed second in the Super Sporting as well with Clark, Williams, Scott, Sears, and senior Lanning Tyrrel getting a score of 215.

Scott, Williams, Clark, Carpenter, and Sears were able to achieve first in the Doubles Skeet with a score of 229.

Lastly, the team once again earned first in the Doubles Trap with Sears, Tyrrel, Clark, Donati, and Scott with a 212 score.

“We still have a lot of work to do for nationals,” Sears said. “But I can’t wait to see how we place. They are making it an amazing senior year for me.”

The next competition for the WC trap and skeet team is currently undecided due to the unknown national tournament schedule.
