On Dec. 1, Washington College Central Services released a campus-wide email announcing a new policy being implemented for the remainder of the 2021-22 academic year and beyond.
According to the email, the College — “in an effort to remain aligned with the United States Postal Service policy and to reduce…liability” — is prohibiting “the receipt or shipment” of banned substances via Central Services. These items include:
– Alcohol;
– Controlled substances such as depressants, hallucinogens, opioids, stimulants, and anabolic steroids;
– Marijuana, both medical or otherwise;
– Tobacco;
– Any product containing Tetrahydrocannabinol; and
– Any and all weapons, ammunition, firearms, and/or explosives.
If packages containing any of these items arrive at Central Services, they will be “isolated and the appropriate campus authority will be notified to handle notification to the recipient” and immediately be returned to sender, according to the email.
