Nice weather returned to campus, meaning it’s time to pull out your spring wardrobes or start shopping for some new outfits.

Fashion magazines and websites, like “Cosmopolitan” and “InStyle,” have collected looks from the runway to assist with your shopping choices.

But, at the end of the day, it’s up to your preference what trends you decide to follow and which you decide to forgo.

Bright or Pastel Colors

When it comes to spring, any color is welcome. Gone are the days of wearing gray, black, and blue on a chilly winter morning. With the flowers in bloom and the sun out, it’s time to wear either bright colors or pastels.

Bright colors, like hot pink or lime green, are back in style, according to “Cosmopolitan.”

Both colors were seen everywhere on the runway, as well as bold colors that add an eye-catching flare to any outfit, such as bold shades of pink, green, and yellow.

“Yup, highlighter hues are back in 2022,” Natasha Harding said in a Cosmopolitan article. “Add a refreshing zing to your summer wardrobe.”

On the other end of the spectrum are pastels, like butter yellow, light purples, pinks, reminiscent of spring flowers. The colors are not as bold, but are still staple items that can be paired with almost anything.

Staple Items

This spring, it’s important to buy items with plenty of versatility so you can get the most out of an item of clothing.

Don’t just buy a top or skirt to wear it once. Instead, buy staple items that you can pair with other pieces to create many different outfits.

The popular items or trends this spring are miniskirts, tops or dresses with halter necks, and overalls, according to both “Cosmopolitan and InStyle.” These items can be paired together and can also be used across different seasons, specifically the overalls.

Prairie Aesthetic

“I’m looking forward to wearing prairie dresses, signature high-necks and ruffles, linens and cottons, and cottage-core prints,” Rachel Garret said in an article for “InStyle.”

The prairie aesthetic has most likely grown in popularity thanks to the cottage-core aesthetic trending on social media sites, like Instagram and TikTok.

Recent period dramas have also encouraged this style. One cannot walk into Target without seeing multiple “Little House on the Prairie” inspired frocks.

This style may not be for everyone, but the basis of the aesthetic can be infused with modern twists to be more digestible for a larger audience.

Florals

Florals for spring will also be a safe and popular option. If you don’t think you can follow the aforementioned trends or just want to reuse items you already have, chances are you own something with a floral pattern.

Floral items can come in a variety of colors and patterns, making it a great piece to own. You could even buy a floral top with a halter neck, and many of the items that make up the prairie aesthetic are littered with flowers.

And, thanks to the versatility of the floral pattern, you’ll also be experimenting with different colors, including both bright and bold hues as well as pastels.

As previously mentioned, you don’t have to follow the trends this spring. Not everyone wants to embrace low rise jeans or pants, even though they’re slowly but surely coming back in style.

Choose items that you like and will continue to wear in the future, instead of following micro trends that won’t be popular in a week.
