Shoremen baseball heats up again with exciting four-game win streak

The Washington College baseball team hosted the McDaniel College Green Terror on Tuesday, April 10. This Centennial Conference game kicked off a four-game win streak for the Shoremen.

In the bottom of the first inning, the Shoremen put themselves on the board first with a home run to center field by sophomore Danny Sheeler.

Sheeler was also named the Goose Nation TV Player of the Game for his performance.

The Shoremen expanded their lead to 6–0 in the bottom of the second inning, but the Green Terror ended their run in the top of the third with a single point. Freshman Noah Iseman responded with solo home run in the bottom of the third, which ignited another run for the Shoremen.

Neither team scored in the fourth inning, but the bottom of the fifth saw the Shoremen score three points to put themselves in double digits with a score of 10–1.

The Green Terror managed to score once in the sixth and seventh innings, but it wasn’t enough to match the Shoremen’s lead. The game ended at 13–3, Shoremen.

The two teams met again on Friday, April 15. The Shoremen traveled to Westminster, Md. to challenge the Green Terror.

The Shoremen jumped on the Green Terrors in the top of the second after no runs from either team. With one out left, freshman Cael Magill tripled to score senior Chris Baker and start a four-point run.

The Green Terror tied the Shoremen in the bottom of the third, but could not match the Shoremen in the remaining innings. The rest of the competition saw the Shoremen score at least once in each inning. They ultimately won, 16–8.

On Saturday, April 16, the Shoremen continued their Conference games and win streak in a double-header against Muhlenberg College at Athey Park Stadium.

The Shoremen outscored the Mules 2–1 in the first inning. Baker homered down the right field and senior Joe Curtin doubled to plate Sheeler.

The Mules tied the game in the top of the second. Neither teams scored again until the seventh inning.

In the bottom of the seventh, senior Brandon Hoffman singled to allow fellow senior Ben Ruvo to touch home plate. Senior CJ Gillmer scored next, unearned.

Ruvo doubled to right field in the bottom of the eighth to score Iseman and bring the Shoremen’s lead to 5–2. The Mules made a final attempt at beating the Shoremen in the top of the ninth, but came out short.

The first game ended at 5–4, Shoremen.

During the second game of the double-header, the Shoremen dominated the Mules with an 18-point scoring run that carried through the second and sixth innings. The Mules responded with four points in the top of the seventh, but lost at 18–4 to the Shoremen.

Senior Ryan Mostellar allowed only one hit and no runs during four innings of pitching and senior Mike Smith was named the Goose Nation TV Player of the Game.

After the victories, the Shoremen’s overall record lies at 18–11 and tied at 4–4 in the Conference. They will host Franklin & Marshall College for a Conference match on Friday, April 22 at 3:30 p.m.
