On Tuesday, April 5, the Washington College baseball team hosted the Haverford College Fords at Athey Park for a Centennial Conference match.

The Shoremen scored twice in the bottom of the first, putting them in the lead. Senior Jackson Kingman doubled to allow freshman Cael Magill and senior Max Ruvo to touch home.

The Shoremen expanded their lead in the bottom of the third with a home run from freshman Noah Iseman, who scored himself, Kingman, Ruvo, and senior Joe Curtin. This was Iseman’s first home run as a Shoreman.

The Fords scored once in the top of the fourth and continued into a 12-point scoring run on the Shoremen until the eighth inning.

The Shoremen retaliated with four points in the bottom of the eighth, but it wasn’t enough to catch up to the Fords’ lead.

Sophomore Logan Yi singled to allow Kingman to touch home. Iseman and senior CJ Gillmer scored off a single to right field from freshman Erik Risnychok. Yi scored after senior Henry Butterfield III batted another single.

The final score ended at 17–10, Fords.

The Shoremen faced the Fords again on Friday, April 8, at Athey Park. The Fords were victorious again with a final score of 6–0.

After these games, the Shoremen have a 14–11 overall record and are 0–4 in the Conference. They will compete again against the McDaniel College Green Terror in Westminster, Md. on Friday, April 15, at 3:30 p.m. This will be another Conference game.

Meanwhile, the WC softball team traveled to Swarthmore, Pa. to verse the Swarthmore College Garnets for an in-Conference double-header.

The first game saw the Shorewomen beat the Garnets 2–1.

Both WC points were scored in the top of the fourth inning. Freshman Chloe Trefz doubled to left field to home freshman Maddy Kendall and junior Lexie Witmer.

In the second game, the Shorewomen were first to put themselves on the board again. Kendall doubled, which allowed Lexi Barnhart to score.

The Garnets responded with four points in the bottom of the third, putting them in the lead. They furthered their lead in the fourth and sixth innings. The Shorewomen were unable to score for the remaining competition.

The final score ended at 6–1, Garnets.

The double-header split left the Shorewomen 3–1 in the Conference and 9–10 for their overall season. Their Conference play will continue on Saturday, April 16, against Ursinus College in another double-header at the WC softball field. The games will commence at 1 p.m.
