Sailing finishes 2022 spring season in New York

The Washington College sailing team took to Kings Point, NY. to sail the Little Neck Bay on Long Island and race in the Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association Open Dinghy Championship. The competition was hosted by the United States Merchant Marine Academy from April 20–May 1.

Junior Stewart Gurnell skippered the sailboat with sophomore Megan Callis as crew in the A Division races. The team placed 12th overall, ending with 148 points. During the seventh race, they achieved fourth place.

The A Division was won by the United States Naval Academy with 41 points. Second place was taken by Georgetown University with 67 points.

For the B Division races, sophomore skipper Alex Heim paired up with junior crewmember Emma Macturk. They ended the B Division in 13th place with 152 points. They earned a sixth place finish in the third race as well.

St. Mary’s College of Maryland placed first in the B Division with 48 points, followed by George Washington University with 59 points in second.

This was the final competition of the WC sailors’ 2022 season.
