Athletic Goose
Across the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), there has been a rise in contracts being signed for the rights to the name, image, and likeness (NIL). The phenomenon has been received with controversy and acclaim regarding the payment of “amateur” athletes.
Among these new signers and partners in the wide world of the NIL, is none other than Washington College’s own Gus the Goose. Gus has signed on in what has been a deal just silly enough for Chestertown’s favorite goose.
This deal includes a gaggle of money, worth up to $69,000 per year. This is also based on his participation in marketing colonial era jackets. Gus, who is known for his immaculate drip, continues to rock his classic revolutionary era blue jacket with gold adorned soldiers.
“Honk honk, honk honk honk,” Gus said.
Other institutions, like the Himothy University Mega-Chads are pushing for similar treatment for their mascot. The highly disrespected Chadley the Mega-Chad has called for similar treatment.
“Dude, I just want some money for freal for real. Why should that walking government drone get a phat paycheck and I get nothing,” Chadley said.
Chadley is not the only one clamoring for a newer sponsorship deal, however, other parties on WC campus are also involved in the controversy. There is a rival clamor for campus wide recognition, the campus squirrels have collectively sought their own NIL sponsorship as they believe that they are on a similar campus wide celebrity status as Gus.
While admitting to being above the haters, Gus admits its hard to drown out the noise and sometimes he wishes the squirrels would go away.
“Honk honk honky honk,” Gus said.
Joining Gus in the squirrel hating sphere, are other campus animals George and Martha, the campus ducks who rose to fame ast spring.
“If i remember correctly those guys bit a student, someone needs to run them a rabies check not a paycheck,” George said.
In the meantime, Gus the Goose continues to be the face of WC and one of the highest paid mascots in the business.
