Washington College women’s lacrosse dropped fourth straight to third ranked Franklin and Marshall College in a 20-5 Diplomats victory.
Junior goaltender McKenna Seashole tallied up 10 saves in the effort. Seashole still maintains the most saves per contest in the Centennial, averaging just over 11 per outing.
On the offensive third of the field, sophomore attacker Mia Salvatierra was the only shorewomen to score more than once, picking up the final two goals in the fourth period. She leads the team with 42 points and has found the back of the net 26 times, also a team high.
“Of course having these losses is not great, but this team is really great at moving forward and getting back to work at improving our craft and fixing what isn’t working while also strengthening what is working. We like to look at the positives that come out of the lost games, and the learning opportunities, as well,” Seashole said.
Senior attackers Morgan Sutherland and Ashley Devlin each added a goal of their own in the loss. The Shorewomen have been outscored 27-62 over their losing streak.
“Each game we play we learn from and get better, so I and the rest of the team are excited about the opportunity to keep playing and show ourselves and the conference how strong of a team we are,” Sutherland said. “We take one game at a time, but are pushing for the ability to keep playing into the playoffs.”
The Shorewomen now fall to 7-6 overall and 1-4 in Centennial Conference play. In their last campaign, the Shorewomen only dropped four Conference games. The squad still has a chance to play for one of the six playoff spots in the Conference tournament.
Their game scheduled for Wednesday, April 17 has been canceled due to the Bryn Mawr College Owls postponing their 2024 season. The team experienced a high volume of injuries this season and will be putting a hold on their season for the benefit of the program. The contest will enter the record books as a Centennial Conference win, which will count for postseason standing, but not an overall win which would count for national rankings.
The Shorewomen have a pair of important home games coming down the stretch. The squad will host the Dickinson College Red Devils on Saturday, April 20. The Red Devils defeated the Shorewomen last season in Carlisle, Pa. 10-8.
Following that matchup, the Shorewomen will host the Swarthmore College Garnet on Wednesday, April 24. That will be the final home contest of the regular season for WC.
Both Dickinson and Swarthmore sit above the Shorewomen in Centennial Conference standings, with Dickinson sitting at fourth and seventh. Picking up wins over those opponents should help WC make a late push for what could hopefully be their twelfth consecutive playoff berth.
