Shorewomen lacrosse drops their third straight in a home loss to the Muhlenberg College Mules. The Shorewomen fall to 7-5 overall, and 1-3 in Centennial Conference play.
WC jumped out to a 3-2 lead in the first period with a go-ahead goal from senior midfielder Abby Laubach. The next five goals were scored by the Mules, who were able to take an 8-5 lead into the break.
The Shorewomen kept things close after scoring the final goal of the second period, coupled with a 2-0 run in the third quarter. However, a 3-1 fourth quarter performance by the visitors was enough to put the game on ice for the Shorewomen.
After dropping four of their last five outings, including three straight, the Shorewomen still sit in position to grab a Centennial Conference playoff spot. With four more conference games to go, each win becomes more meaningful to make the six seeded playoffs.
“Our conference is very strong for women’s lacrosse, and we have faced a few tough components in our last couple games. There were certainly challenges on our end, but there were moments…that showed we are a good team that can compete with good teams,” senior attackwoman Morgan Sutherland said.
Additionally, WC boasts a top goalie in the conference which will help the squad down the line. Junior McKenna Seashole leads the conference in saves per game, averaging just over 11.
Seashole is additionally second in the conference, with a solid .479 average. Coming into her first year with the program, she has put in the work to be a difference maker on the defensive side of the ball.
“Over the summer I played in a summer league and followed a training program designed specially for me as a goalie by my trainer at home…I worked really hard at training my physical skills as well as my mental skills, so that I could be as ready as possible for this season,” Seashole said.
WC will travel to Lancaster Pa. on Saturday, April 13, to take on the fifth ranked Franklin and Marshall College Diplomats. The squad’s meeting with the Bryn Mawr College Owls has been canceled and will count as a win in Centennial Conference playoff standing only.
“Each game we play we learn from and get better, so I and the rest of the team are excited about the opportunity to keep playing and show ourselves and the conference how strong of a team we are. We take one game at a time, but are pushing for the ability to keep playing into playoffs,” Sutherland said.
