The Washington College softball team continues to climb ahead with a 10-4 record in the Centennial Conference, placing them at number one in the playoff standings.

On Saturday, April 20, the Shorewomen played two games against the Gettysburg Bullets, one at 1 p.m. and the other at 3 p.m. The games were split, with the Shorewomen winning the first game 6-2 and losing the second 1-6.

During the winning game, junior outfielder Lilly Cook scored the final run with a single to send senior utility player Hannah Solge to home base.

“Getting the top seed would be huge for our team, which would also provide us the opportunity to host the playoffs at [WC]. We won’t be taking any teams lightly and will maintain staying humble,” Cook said.

On Saturday, April 27 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., the WC shorewomen face the second highest-ranked team in the Centennial Conference, Dickinson. The game is set to happen at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa.

“We’ve been prepared for conference play all season by playing extremely competitive teams in Florida and prior to Florida. This end-of-season doubleheader against Dickinson is no different than the rest of the games we’ve played and that’s the mindset we’ll continue to have going into the postseason in order to stay locked in,” Cook said.

Sophomore utility player Jenna Harper doubled Cook’s enthusiasm for the potential of getting the top seat in the playoffs.

“For one, we would host the tournament, which would be awesome. No long bus rides to tire us out, and having home base and our fans to come out and support would be amazing,” Harper said.

Head softball coach and alumna Sally Snover ‘12, is confident that the team will continue to be successful as the season progresses.

“I am so proud of how hard my team has worked this season; they have gained so much experience that is helping us find ways to win in some of the really competitive conference games we have played so far,” Snover said. “If we are able to earn a home playoff game that would be huge. There is nothing better than playing at home and I would hope to see a lot of the [WC] community out to enjoy some playoff softball.”

The Shorewomen are on track to make an appearance in the Centennial Conference playoffs, which kick off on Tuesday, April 30.
