The Art and Art History club cast a spell on Friday, April 26, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the first-floor Sassafrass Hall common room, where they hosted a witchy craft night.
At the craft night, prepacked craft boxes were available for participants. The boxes contained various colored laces, a crystal point, a miniature glass bottle pendant, two necklace cords, a tarot card pendant, and stickers.
A member of the Art and Art History club executive board senior Sophia Lennox called the gathering “one of [the club’s] most successful events.”
“We wanted to do witchy craft night to make the event more unique and to offer students something they might not have. Good vibes, tarot, and crystals are really fun and interesting to people who might not have had the chance to experience it before,” Lennox said.
For those who wished to wrap their crystal with wire to create a makeshift pendant for a piece of jewelry, Art and Art History club executive board members junior Anna Treadway and senior Morgan Carlson instructed participants on how to wire wrap.
A station was also set up with various bagged herbs that people could mix and match to put inside their miniature glass bottle pendants. Additionally, there were keychains available upon request, stickers, temporary tattoos, and even more crystals.
“We had a lot of stations,” Lennox said. “We wanted to make it as interactive and have as many stations as possible so everyone could find something they might want to do. The art exec board filled boxes to make it easy and accessible.”
In the first-floor study room and meditation room across from the event, seniors Joshua Torrence and Rae Merson performed tarot card readings.
“Sophia Lennox reached out to me about doing some tarot readings for the event. I love providing readings for people so I was more than happy to help with the witchy craft night,” Merson said. “I was so happy with the turnout. There were a lot of people there for the crafts, and both Joshua and I were able to see a lot of people for readings. I thought the event was fantastic and I hope they do this event again.”
Participant freshman Juliana Santiago Batista called the event “amazing.”
“It was a very calm environment, especially with finals coming up and people stressing over tests and stuff. I thought it was a really nice thing,” Santiago Batista said. “[My favorite was] the fake tattoos. That and the tarot card readings. They read me like a book.”
Overall, the event was considered a success both by members of the Art and Art History Club and those who attended.
