With summer quickly approaching, students will be looking for ways to fill their free time. For some activities, like gaming, hiking, or working out, you can also listen to music while completing these tasks.

This time, The Elm would like to recommend an alternative to music: podcasts. These shows can range between two hours long or just 20 minutes, but the following recommendations fall into the shorter range. These shows are great to listen to while taking the metro, driving to work, mowing the lawn, or simply just relaxing.

“Don’t Panic”

This comedy podcast is hosted by Anthony Atamanuik and can be found on Spotify, Amazon Music, YouTube, and Apple Podcasts, according to the company’s website.

The premise of the show is to bring up everyone’s biggest fear of how to survive “the most ridiculous situations.”

According to The Wondery website, Atamanuik makes the podcast truly hilarious with his high-anxiety answers.

Yet, there is another element that truly makes this show great: Atamanuik invites other comedians and celebrities on the show to discuss how they might survive an alien abduction or what they might do if they were attacked by a swarm of bees.

According to the website, there are a total of 42 free episodes available for people to listen to.

“How to Survive on a Desert Island with Adam Pally” is arguably one of the best. On this episode, the two discuss what they know about survival strategies and how they would personally react to being stuck on an island all by themselves; it is guaranteed to leave you laughing and wanting more.

“Office Ladies”

Lovers of “The Office”will enjoy this show, as it is hosted by Jenna Fisher and Angela Kinsey, otherwise known as Pam and Angela, respectively. Earwolf produces the show and their website says there are a total of 203 episodes.

The point of the podcast, according to the Earwolf description, is to break down and give exclusive behind-the-scenes content about all of the episodes of “The Office.”

In this podcast, Fisher and Kinsey go through each episode weekly and pull out their scripts, emails, deleted scenes, and notes to give the best breakdown that they can. Not only does this explain how a TV show is written, but it also shows the process it takes to make one of these episodes and explains where some of the hilarious moments come from.

Many of the episodes stand out. Occasionally, some of their co-stars will make an appearance on the show either in person, in the studio, or over the phone. This podcast would be great to listen to while doing household chores, shopping, or driving into the office.

“Toni and Ryan”

Each episode of this show starts with a ring tone. The hosts, Toni and Ryan, call in one of their Patreon members, called “TARPers,” to approve the episode, and some of the messages are pretty funny.

According to their website, the podcast started in 2021 because the hosts’ “rude jokes” went viral on Instagram Reels and TikTok.

This podcast essentially feels like catching up with friends from college and joking around. The chemistry between the two leads makes the show a success.

Each episode is filled with laughs and are usually around 20 minutes. This show is the top recommendation for people to listen to over the summer — not only because of the Australian accents but because of how good this podcast makes you feel.

Hopefully one of these podcasts can make it into your daily routine and brighten up your commute to work or provide you with a lighthearted listen while relaxing on the warm sands of the beach.
