Shoremen swimming continues their strong start after besting the St. Mary’s College Seahawks and Stevenson University Mustangs in a tri-meet on Nov. 3. The Shoremen out-dueled the Seahawks 160-102 and the Mustangs to the tune of 192-62.
Washington College took eight of the 14 events at the meet on their way to the victory. The Shoremen improve to 4-2 overall, 2-2 within the Centennial Conference.

Senior Chase Henson and sophomore James Hackett led the way for WC, as each took two events. Henson took care of the 50-yard breaststroke (28.09) and the 100 breaststroke (1:00.95). Hackett wrapped up 100 freestyle (50.1) and 200 breaststroke (1:48.36).

The larger group of underclassmen stepping up has helped the Shoremen, as not only Hackett grabbed first place, but other members of the team stepped in to seal the deal.

“As a team we’ve gotten off to a great start and the only way to keep this momentum is to stay positive and enthusiastic. We’ve got a great team culture and everybody does a great job supporting each other as the weeks go on,” Hackett said.
Junior Connor Kravitz-Yoffee took the 1000 freestyle (10:37.40), while freshman Tyler Wright brought home the 100 butterfly (55.59).

The 400 medley relay group for WC brought home a first place finish as well. The team of Henson, fellow seniors William Schmidt and Justin Fitzpatrick, and sophomore Nathan Rawa brought home the top time of  3:36.00.

“Being team captain, it’s a huge honor. And I think one thing that we try to do our best is, you know, if they can see that we’re in a good mood, that we’re in a good mindset and that we want to win,” Fitzpatrick said.

The Shoremen return to action against Salisbury University on Nov. 9.
